Philip and mr_hyde, thank you for the useful hints. When you start with one song and keep skipping songs, the current playlist only shows the 7 last played songs. Maybe that, in combination with the setting 'Remember This Many Played Tracks' greater than 7 explains why the repeating of the same song over and over again is gone now (also after song 21). Therefore, I'll keep the setting of 20. It looks like that did the trick for me.
