That's an interesting project. I am just in the process of adding an
active crossover to my second system (computer desk) to avoid low end
distortion on the main speakers.


In the brutefir configuration file you need to specify the center
frequency of each band, in the "bands" line, and these can be as fine as
you need. The "magnitude" line defines the gain at each frequency. This
leads to some duplication, and an opportunity for error, because each
frequency mentioned in the "magnitude" line must previously have been
mentioned in the "bands" line. Any not mentioned are assumed to be
zero.

brutefir allows the "bands" line to be specified as "iso octave" or
"iso 1/3 octave". This is simply a shortcut to save typing a long list
of numbers in the configuration file, helpful only for those users who
want the standard bands and plan to leave most of them at zero.

You need to set all this up in the brutefir configuration file
manually, then the brutefirdrc plugin provides a user interface for
changing magnitude on your player.
