The 1G was really bad, the 3G is much better (don't have a 2G, just an iPhone 3G which is the same platform and is similar to the 3G iTouch) although I doubt it could rival a Squeezebox. Never cared too much about the audio quality of an iPod. For browsing and e-mail it's actually very, very usable, I'm using it all the time. I do 90% of my reading on this forum with the iTouch or iPhone and like 50% of the writing. Actually I find keeping up with this forum on it much easier than using the browser, but that's mainly due to the Tapatalk forum reader app. The virtual keyboard is not great but acceptable. Can't rival a Blackberry but it's OK for shorter messages. iTunes is a real drag yet you need to use it, I think, at least for setup and to get music onto the device.
