Voila! Thank you for the hint, and of course you are right, the helper app wasn't running. It didn't even start since I'm running 64-bit ArchLinux (doh). So, in ArchLinux x64 the lib32-glibc package is needed as well as the 32-bit binaries for libogg and libFlac (just copy to the plugins /Bin folder). Now it starts as it should and the GUI is working just fine! So the next problem is empty playlists, I read someone else had the same problem so I'll read up on it for now.
