I use WinRAR to extract and replace the .pm file inside the .par file. 
Using WinRAR you can leave the original .par file intact.  Just navigate
in WinRAR to the location of the .pm file.  Drag it out to your desktop
or other location of choice. Leave WinRAR open to the same spot.  Make
your edits and then drag the updated .pm file back to WinRAR.  It will
replace it for you.  That's alot easier than extracting everything and
trying to put it all back.

I use textpad to edit the plugin.pm file.  Any text editor, such as
notepad, will do just fine.  However, I prefer textpad because it can
be setup to color code the text so you can visually see if you have
syntax errors in the perl script.

The file extension can be changed from .par to .pdf and back by simply
renaming the file in windows explorer.  Acrobat isn't needed.  The
slimdevices forums only allow certain file extensions when attaching a
file to a post.  Since .par isn't on the list I followed madpatrick's
lead and used .pdf.
