There is a bug with respect to the "prevent sleep mode" setting and it's use of the proximity sensor. Basically, without forcibly quitting and restarting the app (by rebooting the phone or deleting the jiggling icon from the iOS 4 multitasking app list) the setting's value doesn't alter the behaviour of the proximity sensor.
