Firstly, congratulations on what's obviously an excellent piece of software!
My question is regarding squeezeplayer mixing with hardware, if at all. I currently use computers running squeezeplayer through out the house to pipe synchronised music everywhere. I wanted to know, if I were to buy a Squeezebox Receiver hardware device, could this play and control Spotify whilst sending the music to other software players, or are software players totally blocked from the whole thing? Related to this, (and after having read 127 pages of this thread!) I wanted to ask Triobe to reconsider his decision to block software players. I can understand what's been said so far, and the reasons for blocking software players, but I believe there are plenty of reasons why actually including the software players would add to the value of Squeezebox and Spotify. Firstly, for me, one of the best things about Squeezebox, is the open nature of it; that users can set up any configuration they need which suits their needs without being forced to buy redundant hardware, when hardware is already in place to do the job. Secondly, I don't see allowing software players as any infringement of the licensing of Spotify. Including software players isn't giving people the all-clear, nor the ability to start ripping streams from Spotify, and furthermore, for those who wish to do that, there's DSBridge which provide the ability. If I wanted to rip streams from Spotify I'd have to go to a lot of effort to write something which could take the audio stream from the Spotify plugin and redirect it to a file, which wouldn't be an easy task. If I were so dedicated to it, I would just as easily devote my efforts to writing my own Spotify API application which I could then use to rip the streams myself, as could any nefarious developer with similiar intentions. Including software players doesn't give people any more ability to rip streams than they currently have, and on the down-side, it excludes a load of decent, legally paying, non-criminal users who just want to use the Spotify account they've already paid for. I have a whole house setup for Squeezebox, and I've written applications for integrating with Spotify to display album art, and connect to Last.Fm to get information for parties, showing the current song playing along with random artist photos and information. For me, to get squeezebox and spotify linked up would be the final piece in a great set up, I've worked really hard for. As it stands now, it seems a real shame that it won't happen, and I'm really hoping Triobe would reconsider this decision. -- treblent ------------------------------------------------------------------------ treblent's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40581 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79706 _______________________________________________ plugins mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
