Thanks for your help. Instead of the $30 VAC solution, which may be better from many aspects, I purchased at Amazon a $20 USB external sound device (I got the PPA 1455) which seems to work, but isn't as easy to setup as I would prefer, and doesn't always seem to remember the settings from one day to the next.
