No silly question but actually something that is a bit peculiar on the iTouch.
Apple doesn't let an App control the screen saver and screen lighting so iPeng can't do something like the controller does with it's movement senor (waking up when being picked up). The one thing you _can_ do is turn the screen lock off completely (iPeng has an option for this) so the App will always be active. The drawback of this is that it drains the battery, you will only have like 5-6 hours of battery life in this mode so you should get a dock to place it in if you plan to do this. But it will permanently show NowPlaying information. Actually as you say it I feel like it would be a nice idea to only keep it active while something is playing and having it go to sleep when not.
