I don't fully understand, everything short of rearranging the playlist should work. You can get an overlay (just like in the iPod App) by tapping an unused area of the screen (includes the lower part with the title information in portrait mode). I tried to extend this to the playlist area but it impacts scrolling too much. This overlay contains almost all controls (exception: main power) and you can even bring up the editable playlist.
