If I recall correctly, if the MusicIP server is down or if there is no
existing fingerprint in the MusicIP server for the track that you're
trying to analyze... the local machine analyzes the track, creates a
fingerprint, tags the track with that fingerprint. and then uploads the
resulting fingerprint to the MusicIP server (If the server is up). This
process takes a considerable amount of time. If the server is up and
the fingerprint for the track you want to analyze already exist in the
MusicIP database, the analyzing process takes considerable less time,
because all the MusicIP client has to do is download the fingerprint
from the server and tag the track. The time it takes the local computer
to analyze, tag and upload the fingerprint also depends on speed of the
computer, the length of the track and the speed of your connection.
Note that when the server is down, not only does it take longer to
analyze tracks, but it also stumps the growth of the database that
helps MusicIP streamline the process and new fingerprints can not be
uploaded for subsequent use for other users.
