OK - so this is likely to be the spotify servers running slow. What server version are you using? Is it 7.5.3 or later - if so the plugin should try to relogin to find a new server to avoid this. When comparing to the PC spotify client, bare in mind that that uses peer-peer for streaming and hence does not stream direct from the spotify servers.
