you most definitely can get a 3rd party app to stream spotify premium perfectly! I'm using it for my 2 booms and classic.
open up your squeezebox server, click on settings down in the right corner, then click on the plugins tab at the top of the next page, then scroll down until you find Spotify (v1.3.4). described as third party spotify plugin, written by Triode. check the box and install it. you'll then need to open up the settings page, which can be accessed from that same screen, and input your spotify account details to log in. just one thing; on the settings page make sure the helper app is running. if it's not then it won't work. I had troubles with mine upon first install but managed to sort it out.
