You are absolutely right. In my case it was caused by having set the "block Incoming Connections". After disabling this setting i can hear music again.
I had no issues with any other music source i used (local collection, internet radio) only Spotify seems to be influenced by this setting. Setting a password doesn't matter. The Spotify plugin works with password on and password off. I run Squeezebox 7.5.6.
