In this chaotic time with the somewhat unexpected 7.6.0 release and a
lot of negative comments in the forum, I would like to take the time to
send a big "Thank you" to everyone that supports all third party
developers through donations, feedback, help with beta testing or just
help other users who have problem with a plugin.
Even though most of the third party developers don't this for the
money, it's really nice to get a donation or just getting positive
feedback through some nice words from people who like what you've done
and appreciate all your efforts. I know through personal experience
that small things like this will encourage the developers to continue
doing third party development for the Squeezebox system.
In my Squeezebox setup third party plugins, applets and apps have a
very central place, and I'm sure I'm not alone, I can't even begin to
think how the system would work without all the third party stuff I
use. I've developed some myself but I'm also using a lot of
plugins/applets/apps from other third party developers.
I also know how much work it can be to maintain already developed
plugin and just support users who have problems with them. I think most
of my plugins have started with something I wanted myself but these days
I often spend more time supporting other people using them than actually
using the plugins in my own setup. So when something doesn't work in
your setup, especially after the 7.6 release which we didn't expect to
be released yet, remember that all the third party developers do this
on their spare time for free. So try to encourage them in the way you
can and help them beta test the plugins/applets instead of only
complaining when a plugin doesn't work with 7.6 or the developer
doesn't seem to take the time fix the problem as fast as you would
like.
Besides thanking everyone who supports us developers I also want to
send an even bigger "Thank you" to all the third party developers who
have made my Squeezebox setup what it is today.
There are so many of them, so I'm going to limit myself to the ones who
have developed plugins I use in my own setup, they are mentioned below
in no specific order:
- *mherger* - I really love your MusicInfoSCR and Biography plugins
- *peterw* - I love what your Context Menu plugin have done for my
setup and the Kitchen Timer plugin is so wonderful on my Boom in the
kitchen. Even though I have TrackStat with similar functionallity I
really love your PlayLog plugin and let's not forget about
SaverSwitcher which really revolutionized the screen usage on my
Classic in the living room.
- *Triode* - Your Spotify and YouTube plugins talks for them self,
these are plugins that haven't just improved my setup they have even
changed the way I discover and find new music.
- *cparker* - The excellent way SugarCube is able to take advantage of
MusicIP and turn it into never ending interesting playlists is so
nice.
- *GoCubs* - I really love SuperDateTime and the way it's able to
provide weather information to my Squeezeboxes
- *hickinbottoms* - Your Lazy Search made it possible to search via IR
remote, without it I wouldn't use the search features of Squeezebox
Server.
- *Philip Meyer* - I love your Playlist Manager plugin which makes it
possible to put tracks into different playlists to actually do some
simple playlist management directly on the Squeezebox.
- *pippin* - iPeng and iPeng for iPad really revolutionized the way I
browse my library, I don't even remember how I used the system before
them, they are soo great.
- *bluegaspode* - Besides SqueezePad, which I love, I'd also like to
thank your for indirectly making pippin's iPeng better :-) The
competition between SqueezePad and iPeng has really moved all iOS apps
to a completely new level. I'm not using SqueezePlayer for Android
myself since I don't currenly have an Android device, but it's
astonishing to see how it suddenly makes it possible to turn more or
less any Android based device into a Squeezebox.
- *rtitmuss* - Even though I don't think you are currently maintaining
Soft Squeeze I believe you were the original developer, so a big thank
you for that, it has helped all plugin developers so much when
developing new plugins and also made it possible for new users to get a
real demo of the system before purchasing it.
- *bpa* - Thanks for taking over the maintenance of Soft Squeeze, it's
really making my own plugin development so much easier.
- *kdf* - Even though I'm personally not using any of your plugins, I'd
like to send a big "Thank You" especially to you because I know we
wouldn't be here without all efforts you have spent helping both
Logitech, third party developers and end users.
- *agillis* - Thanks for brining a pre-configured Squeezebox Server
hardware to us in the form of VortexBox, I really love it.
- *truehl* - Thanks for bringing SqueezePlug distribution to us which
made it possible to run a Squeezebox Server on the low power Sheevaplug
hardware with decent performance instead of being forced to use
expensive NAS boxes.
There are a lot of third party developers missing in this list, most
just because they have done stuff that didn't fit into my system but it
might be something you love, but also because there are so many of them
so it's easy to miss someone when making a list like this, so I'd also
like to send a "Thank you" to everyone else who has also contributed
with plugins, applets or other apps which we love and use when enjoying
our music.
Everyone else, not developing own plugins/applets/apps, let's keep
supporting all these third party developers in any way we can, we
really want all these third party applets/plugins/apps to be
continuously developed, don't we ?
