The AAC stream is a HTTP/AAC stream and probably is 128kbps whereas the
WMA one is 48kbps - so excluding BBC source problems, any network issues
including the servers running the stream are more likely to affect the
higher speed streams first. I think there are different servers for AAC
compared to WMA streams.

Unfortunately I can't tell from the spdr: URLs as these are "special"
ones from Touch/radio BBCiPlayer Applet to request SBS top start a
stream but the precise details of the stream are in the "lots of
letters"
