OK I have it working now but not sure how I achieved it ! Here's what I did :
When I logged in tonight a new version of media server was available so I installed it (still R7.7.0 though !) I opened the control panel and ran cleanup from the advanced tab I downloaded the standalone spotify software for windows and logged in with remember my password ticked, then closed it down. Restarted media server and removed the official and unofficial spotify plugins. Restarted media server again and added the unofficial spotify app. (It restarted itself then again) I disabled the helper app entered my credentials and it worked.
