Most likely this is due to some server timeout. These queries can be pretty slow, in particular on NAS devices. The web page to this plugin has a message in red: "Image handling requires powerful hardware. Don't try to run this plugin on your underpowered NAS unless you're very patient." - and I mean it :-).
