Hi I have this setup running. SqueezePad on the iPad will do exactly what you are asking for. I have been using it for about a week now and I am super happy with it
DS211 with latest DSM 4.0 beta running Apple TV conncted to my Amplifier iPad SqueezePad + iPlad player pluggin : 11 Euro And then yes ! Just play it on your iPad, select the task manager and select your Apple TV as Airplay out as you would normally do. And voila, you are streaming from your NAS to your Apple TV via Airplay.
