It does use a bit of CPU, so if you are streaming something that
requires a lot of CPU I guess it could affect the streaming quality.
I'm also pretty sure some people in the audiophiles section would
consider high CPU usage bad for the audio quality. Some can even hear
difference when the display is completely turned off compared to when
it shows standard Now Playing screen.
However, it doesn't really matter unless you can hear a difference
yourself, so do a blind test with Album Flow/Screen Switcher active and
one with the standard Now Playing screen. If you can't hear a
difference, it probably doesn't matter in your setup.
Personally, I consider it a waste and not use the screen for something
useful when playing music, so I'm using a Custom Clock style with
visualizer and LastFM artist images.

However, if you want to increase the life time of the display you
should probably turn it off completely, but that feels like a waste to
me. Why have a display if you aren't going to use it ?
I've had my Touch powered on with various screen savers pretty much
24/7 all days of the year since I got it, and I was part of the beta
testing so I think I got it at least 6-12 months before it was
officially released. So far I have not noticed any problem with the
display.
