Ahhhh. I've just uninstalled Bluecoat K9 content filtering (I'd previously told it to allow everything) and everything seems to be working properly. It was obviously still doing something to the data even though it was supposed to be allowing everything. A real Doh! moment as turning off firewalls etc was one of the first things I tried!
