All 3 external drives (2 hard drives, one CD-ROM) are connected via USB
2.  FWIW, the only external drive that cdda2wav can "see" is an SATA HD
for which I bought a USB enclosure.  The other two drives were built and
marketed as external drives; I don't know if that changes anything about
what sorts of interfaces they might use internally in a way that could
affect cdda2wav.  All external drives are plugged in at all times and,
specifically, were plugged in the last time I booted the computer.  All
three external drives are seen by and work "normally" in Windows.

I'll dig into the permissions angle when I get a chance.
