In trying to make my tagging flexible and future-proof (as if), my
approach is becoming one where custom tags hold all the component pieces
of data. Thus I can have Movement and Opus tags and then concatenate
them to produce Title. It occurs to me that the same approach should be
used for other standard tags that can cause difficulty, such as Artist.
This allows the Artist tag to be built (using mp3tag for example) from
the custom tags, including Composer. I mentioned in a previous post
that, if there is an Artist tag, the Composer does not get shown on the
SB Touch display. Concatenating artist and composer into the Artist tag
solves that problem (as does having an Album Artist and no Artist, if
the circumstances permit). The only (slight) problem with having both in
the Artist tag is that Muso then shows (in classical mode) the composer
twice (as composer and artist) - see screenshot below. Would it be a
good idea to eliminate multiple references to the same artist/composer
etc. at the same level? I don't know whether this might have unforeseen
consequences, but it would make for a cleaner view (especially if there
are other contributing performers/ ensembles etc., which there aren't in
the example given).
BTW, the two-composer attribution works perfectly for albums like this.
