I see the same thing when I'm trying to browse and scroll through 3100 albums. I get several 'Loading...' spinnies, which take about 5 seconds to populate, so it makes it difficult to know where in the album list you are when scrolling. Eventually, if you scroll through the whole list, then it's all loaded and is instantaneous after that.
Roland - are you using buffered* features of the ExtJS grid? They just introduced the bufferedrenderer plugin in 4.2. This is supposed to increase performance scrolling large grids considerably.
