No, there's no way to disable it and even if there was, it would not help with your problem. The problem with the slider is that you have to hit the knob and hit it before moving your finger or iOS will hand the gesture to the container containing the whole page. Without the Lyrics you would not get the Lyrics screen but whenever you get that now, moving the slider would still fail.
You really have to only start sliding after hitting the knob of the progress bar, then it will work fine. A good indicator is whether the overlay showing the position within the track comes up.
