This is optional for the use with SmartMix. And you can chose whatever you want. But please note that Spotify is a paid service. And the SmartMix features are also available with the free version of eg. Deezer (or paid MOG or Rhapsody/Napster).
2. If a spotify track is playing, pressing the "+" will not give me the smartmix options, is that correct? only when playing a local track the option is available.
Yes, that's unfortunately correct (I was just looking into this a few minutes ago :-)). But you can get the same options from My Music/SmartMix in any case.
