Greetings forum,

Spicefly SugarCube is a fantastic plugin and has really enhanced the
listening pleasure I get from my Squeezeboxes. The ability to listen to
an album or playlist, and then have SugarCube kick-in at the end and
play similar sounding tracks, means I can listen to music all day
without constantly having to fiddle with queuing up new tracks, or
getting a jarring random track selection that doesn't suit the mood or
tempo of the previous song.

Unfortunately, SugarCube's track selections have recently become
frustratingly repetitive and predictable, and I have just twigged to
what's going on.

Has SugarCube suddenly become an anglophile pop obsessive, only queuing
tracks from the Beatles, Badfinger and Big Star? No; it also has a
penchant for the smooth soul of Al Green, Ann Peebles and Aretha
Franklin. Plus it doesn't mind rock guitars: Bleeding Knees Club, Black
Keys and Best Coast also get a good run.

The common theme I've noticed is that SugarCube really likes songs where
the artist name begins with a letter from the upper reaches of the
alphabet. Sure, I get a few Cars and Donny Hathway tunes; sometimes I'm
lucky and get to hear EELS. But XTC, You Am I and Zombies? No way.

MY GUESS IS THAT A RECENT UPDATE TO SUGARCUBE, OR POSSIBLY LMS, HAS
MESSED WITH THE WAY SUGARCUBE CHOOSES TRACKS. SOMETHING APPEARS TO BE
SORTING AND PREFERENCING SONGS ALPHABETICALLY BY ARTIST NAME, RATHER
THEN TAKE THEM IN THE ORDER THAT MUSICIP WOULD GENERATE THEM.

I dub this the "Aretha Franklin Bug", and there was some discussion
about it in this thread from last
year:http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?73988-Announce-Spicefly-SugarCube-Version-2-03-%96-%28Automatic-MusicIP-DJ%29-for-7-x/page15

*This is my long-winded way of asking if other people are still having
this problem, and if they have found a fix for it?* I would post over
on the spicefly.com forums but I haven't had my request for a forum
account accepted. If it helps, I can post my Spicefly settings, but I
have tried numerous different combinations and haven't found anything
that can stop Aretha Franklin.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T,
