do not see many artist artworks and my players lose contact with the server. I see artworks on my controller but they load very slowly but without killing the server. Is this normal?
No, definitely not. Did the scan finish normally? If it did, then all those images should be ready to be used in LMS' cache. Loading them should be approximately as quick as for the album covers. My server has really poor IO, but loading the artists list on a touch I can easily jump to "Yes" and get the four icons within less than a second. Browsing the artists in the web UI with 50 items probably takes a second or two (or five), but that's very similar to what I'm seeing with albums.
There could be one performance hit if a lot of artists were _not_ found. In those cases the plugin might try to grab their artwork one more time - which can be very slow.
