No you can install squeezelite wherever you want playback , you install it as local player plugin only if you want playback on the server in your case ( our mine ) the server machine is probably not going to be used as a player . There is a separate squeezelite tread somewhere on the forum . This tread is about when squeezelite is packaged in the local player plugin ,it makes the install simpler if you whish playback on the server , it's a one click process :). But basically you get the squeezelite executable for your OS put it somewhere and then figure out how to autostart it on your OS if you have a firewall use the same rules as LMS would have needed . then LMS on your server and thus any controller for example iPeng can see the player .
