Of course, following standard behaviour, after reporting intermittent
problems, I am currently not getting them!

Do the logs show what kind of stream is being played? If so, how?

A quick current check shows a CPU load of around 10% with several
programs running but idle.Network download shows at around 30 KB/s, and
the Powerline load (or available load) at 80 Mbits/second.

I could move to a Squeezebox Touch, either as a trial or permanently, as
I have on as a spare.
