Just to confirming if it is a PlayHLS issue or a generic transcoding one - can you play AAC stream ( such as http://www.somafm.com/illstreet32.pls ) on softsqueeze ? The other possibility is new HLS streams are 48Khz . Newer abd better softplayesr include Squeezeplay and Squeezelite.
