Same on Windows but for live streaming it does appear that it is using HDS.
The "sniffer" part of a program I have gives "http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hds/uk/hd/llnw/bbc_radio_three.f4m"; as the URL for Radio 3 Live. The on-demand Radio 3 streams seem to be still using the old rtmp format.
