What do you mean - the check box was ticked or unticked ? - The checkbox was unticked.
Was the PlayHLS shown as Active but enabled box not ticked ? - I don't remember exactly. At the very top of the plugin page there was a line asking to install (I think) PlayHLS and the checkbox was unticked. This persisted over a couple of cycles of checking the box and restarting LMS. At which point I installed LMS 7.8 and everything was OK.
