Oh, I hate iTunes, too, yet I still use it (OK, I'm a Mac user and haven't found a convincing alternative for ripping there) but granted, I never sync music to my devices. I do still use it for iThingy backup because I don't trust iCloud (no developer does, it's such a mess) and I have some devices that never have enough memory left for the OTA update. Which obviously also completely disqualifies them for any kind of music storage.....
