No, it wouldn't. LMS simply doesn't support transcoding of remote
streams to PCM, no matter of the format, it only supports transcoding to
MP3 and FLAC. It's different from local files (where you have many more
options).
I am not sure why that is but my guess is it has to do with the protocol
handler timing. The server needs to communicate the format of the stream
to the player in advance for PCM because PCM doesn't contain any format
information but it only knows the format after interpreting part of the
stream.

The proxied streaming option in ickStream is essentially the same one
the server already has (confusingly called "mo3 streaming method"), we
apply it by default because the buffers in the Squeezeboxes, especially
the old ones, are pretty small and it was difficult to get a stable
stream with the lossless services with direct streaming. This is
probably not going to get better with HD formats. That said: at least
TIDAL has done a lot of work recently to improve their CDN to get stream
reliability up.
