I was said that Minimstreamer uses a persistent HTTP connection, so
doesn't do the frequent DNS lookups. But there are apparently other
potential robustness problems with that approach as well.

I've looked at trying to bypass the LMS DNS lookup, but I haven't found
a clean way of doing that. I did try modifying the LMS DNS code to cheat
- forcing the time-to-live on DNS lookups to half an hour or so, and
never saw any problem with that. That would work for you, as a local
mod. It's easy to do on Linux, as the source Perl is there. But on
Windows it is complied - you'd have to find out how to recompile...
