It wasn't the web connection, or the Firewall AFAICS, though the port
answer made sense.

I
- reinstalled the plugin on my SB Server
- got a slightly different error message
- ticked "disable cache"
- and the test worked!
- and I have streaming music from Spotify through my hifi again, without
interruption with my new powerline based network!

Am guessing perhaps some kind of issue with cached data.
