@flysurfer: Thank you for your reply. I've gone ahead and purchased an
Odroid-XU4, the USB-SPDIF converter and a max2play license. The XU4 will
be delivered tomorrow and you may start getting requests for help from
me as well! Is it better to use this forum or the max2play forum?

I'll let you know how I get on.
