I've been using Smart Mix for a while now, and really like it. One thing I noticed though, is that when I start a new playlist with a song, it will pick another song by the same artist immediately to go next, or at least soon after. Often from the same album even. If possible I'd like to ask for a setting similar to the "Most recently played (days)", but for artist and probably with a resolution of minutes or hours instead of days.
First the simple part of the answer: there's no such concept as an album known to the.echonest.com. I have no influence there.
About the artist: I'm reluctant to add yet another filtering option, as this has become too complex already... In theory TEN should be smart enough to handle this, but in my experience that's not always the case indeed. And I personally don't see this as a problem, because if I've been listening to some track of a given artist, I most often like it :-).
