Ok, I think there has been a lot of confusion around the "Artists" menu. Users were reporting empty or incomplete menus. Now it seems that Triode's plugin implemented those features all locally, eg. the artists you added to your library were only stored in the plugin's prefs, but not on Spotify. Therefore they are not showing up in the new Artists menu, as this is using whatever you "follow" on Spotify.
