For DSM4 and DSM5 the current Synology Logitech Media Server Beta packages are based on a pretty old nightly. Because of the continuous improvements and added functions, I provide these (unofficial) updates for DSM4, 5 and 6.
For DSM4 and 5 I would say it is beneficial. For DSM 6, Synology picked an more recent nightly to build there packages of. So there is less 'need' to use LmsUpdate for DSM6.
