Something sounds strange here... It may be that the previous version of SDT wasn't completely removed, because you should have the updated plugin settings window which would allow you to configure the API key and other settings. If the older plugin was installed manually, it may still exist in a different sub-directory under LMS. I believe under LMS settings, the advanced tab shows a list of possible locations for plugins.
