Discovered that the looping only applies to a pair of synced players. Stand alone players - all types - are ok.

I can throw some more light on this. The 2 players are 2 x Picoreplayer + DACs ie. Squeezelite. I switched off the sync. Operating independently they both loop.
Now I'm confused... isn't the latter in contradiction to what you previously wrote?
Note that Spotify Artist Mix works on all players OK whether independent or synced.

In your notes you said the DSTM settings were player specific and that it would appear under Spotify Protocol Handler on the player menu. I note it doesn't appear in the LMS Gui under Player or anywhere else I can see - should it ?
No, as I said: it's only in the player (or rather: controller) UI. You need either a Squeezeplay based device, SP itself, or some controller app which does use the standard LMS menus. The web UI currently won't do it.
On the picoreplayers when synced I had to select DSTM via iPeng - as they were synced iPeng only offered one lot of settings - I suspect that
What do you mean by "one lot of settings"? You would of course always only ever see the current player's settings.
