Did you pick deny when Squeeze Ctrl asked for permission to "Ignore battery optimizations"? If you did, then the "Always Connected" option will be turned off in General preferences, which means that Squeeze Ctrl doesn't run the background, hence no notification. The app has to ask for that permission because under Android 6.0, when the phone is in battery saver mode, network connections are suspended for all background apps. This of course means that Squeeze Ctrl would not be able to operate in the background. Just go to Preferences > General and enable "Always connected" and it will ask for the permission again. When you skip, the server actually sends a new stream to the player that starts at the new position, so the type of the player shouldn't matter.
