It has been confirmed that BBC Radio iPlayer will in future require a
login (as far as I can tell the same login as the existing one on the
website using the BBC ID). They said yesterday that this was being done
so they could 'improve the customer experience' by insisting that users
provide their postcode, and was (of course) nothing to do with the
license fee (naturally, since that used to be for TV only).

This raises several questions (setting aside the blatant rubbish of
their excuse for doing this). Is this in principle the sort of thing
that this plugin might be able to handle? What will happen to users
outside the UK? Are there any security implications?
