That's good to know.  

For the benefit of other readers.  The HLS streams have a MIME type and
the PlayHLS plugin associated that MIME type with a transcoder using
ffmepg/avconv to play the stream. 

Some users have reported less "rebuffering" when using ffmpeg/avconv to
play live BBC streams.  Using PlayHLS with ffmpeg/avconv requires more
CPU & memory than the BBCiPlayer 1.4.9 and also requires the end user to
find a compatible version of avconv /ffmpeg that works on their system.
