Perfectly valid solution, as long as your using the DatabaseBlocks services available in Plum, like you're doing.
If you were instead calling custom methods that returned complete query objects, you could also use this switch technique to call one method or another depending upon the value of the switch. I think we'll just document this as the preferred solution.
