I agree with some of what he's saying, but you can't make blanket statements like that for all projects. The Private Beta team can't wait 3-4 weeks until the Access fix becomes available, or the Wizard's "debugging on" problem is resolved, so we turn them around ad hoc and as quickly as possible to accommodate people.
The Public Beta will more closely resemble what he's talking about, but we're not going to require people to agree to anything -- we're just happy to get it in front of as many people as possible and hear back from whomever would like to comment. We'll put it out there for maybe a month in the first public cycle, then see what happens. We're also going to slipstream in a couple of new features that will definitely rock your world. As you'll soon see, the Plum IDE is a platform upon which a whole collection of useful tools will be built. You don't see it just by looking at it, but Plum already has a complete plug-in architecture that makes extending it with new modules very simple and straightforward. We're going to leverage this capability big-time, and also open the SDK to outside developers so third parties can develop plug-ins of their own to run in the Plum IDE. You'll also be able to drop-in your own transformers (XSLT) and have Plum IDE automatically install them so you can perform custom code generations on the Plum project file, which is stored in XML format. So you see, our Beta testing needs are rather different from the traditional commercial software development-and-testing cycle.
