Personally, I would just like to see the ability to build a Search form,
and have it point to a 'report' instead of a list. The report file
(XXXReport.com, for instance) would have enough code in it to handle
accepting the filtered query object like a list does. Then maybe a call
to a DisplayReport tag, with an attribute that specifies what type of
report, a la type="html" or type="CF" or type ="Crystal".
Additional attributes passed to DisplayReport would allow you to pass
output types, or addtional parameters for headers, footers, etc.
With the HTML type report, some simple attributes to specify groupings
or aggregate functions would be nice.
But really, at this time I am just interested in a mechanism to get a
filtered and sorted query object passed that we can then pass to one of
the available report writers or use it as a starting point for more
complex reports. Leave the heavy work to the developer and actual
report writer used.
Hope I am not being too vague.

Ok, *now* you've done it!
So now David and I are figuring out a way to integrate reporting into Plum
for V1.1, and if possible write a KB article about how to incorporate it
into V1.0.
We're going over multiple possible approaches, but we'd like to get
everyone's feedback about the kinds of reports you're likely to produce. I
need to emphasize *likely* rather than *possible* because we're not trying
to reproduce Blackstone's or Crystal's reporting capabilities; we're trying
to implement a straightforward meat-and-potatoes reporting capability that
handles the majority of mainstream reporting capabilities.
If you'd like to share your thoughts on reporting from Plum, please respond
to this message.
If you'd like to share some of the reports you currently produce or would
like to produce from a ColdFusion application, please take a *.GIF* (not
.bmp, please!) screen shot and email if *OFFLIST* to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] so we don't flood this list with
attachments.
Thanks in advance for your input.

Subject: [plum] Plum Reporting
In all my time in the beta, I haven't spent much time worrying about
reporting. But since I personally work a lot on private intranets, I
thought it would be good to discuss how to approach building reports in
Plum. Since there is not a DisplayReport custom tag at this point, what
is the best way to approach this?
You would obviously build a search form, but since the IDE only lets you
select a list to post to, what do you do?
Adam and/or Dave, got any suggestions on how to approach this? Might be
a good KB article also.
