Adam, The release schedule looks OK, need to look at in more detail when time allows me to. For the corporate sponsorship, are you accepting one sponsor for a release for the benefits you explained or more than one. If it is more then one, won't that cause problems as far as space in the IDE and on message footers?
I think I have a pretty good comprehension of what it takes to build PLUM based on past experience I have had, which is why I find it to be such an amazing product, not to mention it is obviously based on your years of experience and knowledge. I think we all certainly understand for this need. We quickly realized that we are going to need some sort of corporate financial sponsorship to continue upgrading Plum at any significant pace, which I'll address in a moment. We've decided to split up the new enhancements and features as follows: http://www.productivityenhancement.com/plum/ReleaseOrder.cfm (please don't circulate this link. It's for this discussion list only, and subject to change.) All bug fixes, the removal of mandatory aliasing from queries used with Plum custom tags, and the new CF_2CFMODULE service will be incorporated into V1.01, which we should have finished before CFUNITED. This will not only bring better stability to Plum, it will will also make Plum significantly easier to work with both during development and deployment. For releases beyond V1.01... You have to understand that Plum is a *very* involved product under the covers, and it takes one hell of a lot of work to make things as easy as they are on the surface. We put a lot of time into Plum, all funded by what we earn from our consultation and training business, but we're going to need some additional funding in order to have more than one or two releases per year. By not having to parcel out little bits of Plum development time every week, we can treat Plum just like it's one of our regular development jobs and give it our full attention and concentration. We never expected to have a lot of people contribute to Plum by purchasing a License Key (it never will make that much of a difference compared to the amount of work people have requested to go into the product), but we can easily speed up the Plum release schedule by acquiring some corporate funding. We'll place a lifetime banner ad in the Plum IDE for companies who sponsor a release of Plum, plus a spot on the Plum pages on our website, plus a hyperlink in the footers of the Plum Discussion List messages. We've split up the release points such that each is approximately the same amount of work as the other, so they'll all cost the same. If you're interested in sponsoring a release of Plum, please contact me privately by phone at 770-446-8866 so we can discuss the cost of sponsorship and the details of your banner ad. Don't worry -- if we don't get any corporate sponsors, we'll still continue to develop new releases of Plum; they will just take significantly longer to develop. So anyway, what do you all think about the release order? What do you think about the idea of corporate sponsorship?
